Dr. Iyer earned her medical degree from Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College in Pune, India, which is one of the country’s premier medical institutions. She completed a Master’s degree in Public Health at the University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston. During this time, she also researched in the Department of Cancer Genetics at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She moved to Baltimore, Maryland to complete a residency in Internal Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University/ Sinai Hospital, and then went on to the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenbaum Comprehensive Cancer Center for a clinical fellowship in Hematology and Oncology. Her research interests during fellowship were in breast, colorectal and pancreatic cancers, but she enjoys all aspects of clinical hematology-oncology care. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine as well as Medical Oncology.
While not at work, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and her 3 year old son. She is spiritual by nature and regularly practices yoga and transcendental meditation. Dr. Iyer is married, and her husband is a biomedical engineer working as a research professional at University of Southern California.
